Intensive Outpatient Programs: Your Guide

woods at parkside intensive outpatient program

If the symptoms of your mental health or addiction issue don’t warrant the use of an inpatient treatment center, you may want to consider outpatient treatment. If this is the case, one of your options is an intensive outpatient treatment program, or IOP. The Woods at Parkside conducts two different IOPs. In this article, we’ll provide important information about IOPs and address common questions about IOPs to help you decide if this program is right for you.

What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

An intensive outpatient program is a treatment option that allows you to live at home while getting part-time treatment for mental health or substance abuse issues. These programs provide a range of therapies, including group work, individual therapy sessions, medication management, and more.

The Woods at Parkside IOP

The Woods at Parkside has operated an IOP for many years, and counselors have extensive experience in their field. Our counselors have the practical knowledge and skills to help you throughout your recovery process. Here is what you can expect from the program.

What Kinds of Services Are Provided?

The IOP programs at The Woods at Parkside combine lectures, education, and group therapy. The curriculum incorporates classes that deal with acceptance, setting goals, core issues, boundaries, and stress management. Classes also emphasize the importance of holistic healing and stress the relationship between physical, spiritual, and emotional health.

Treatment plans also address relapse prevention and community involvement. Groups use cognitive therapy to change thinking patterns. Since many clients who work the program have a dual diagnosis, classes also deal with emotional stabilization.

The program offers counseling for family members as needed and creates discharge plans for the clients before they go to aftercare.

Who Do People in the Program Work With?

Counselors work closely with IOP clients. The AM IOP clinician is Robert Gillies, LISW-S, LICDC, and the PM IOP counselor is Denise Chambers, MSW, LSW, LICDC.

What Times Do Groups Meet Each Week?

The Woods at Parkside offers morning and evening IOP sessions. The AM IOP program is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. In addition, the PM IOP program meets on Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM.

Who Should Attend the Program?

The program accepts any client who has completed the inpatient level of care or partial hospitalization program at the treatment facility. Direct admissions from the community are also accepted.
